Fire Insurance

As stated in the general terms and conditions of fire insurance, fire insurance covers losses directly caused by fire, as well as movable and immovable property and its contents. Unless otherwise specified in the contract, your belongings, those of your household members, those living with you, and your employees are also covered by insurance.

Fire insurance is a very broad type of insurance. In addition to homes, buildings, and workplaces, you can also obtain insurance for external structures such as coal mines, outbuildings, water tanks, garages, and elements that complete the building, such as escalators, elevators, plumbing, and TV antennas. Purchase indoor and outdoor fire insurance. You can read our content for information about workplace insurance. Fire insurance protects workplaces, residences/buildings, their contents (fixtures, commercial goods, machinery), and windows with primary policy coverage and additional supplementary coverage. This insurance can be applied to both movable and immovable property. Those living with you are also covered by the policy.

  • Strikes, lockouts, riots, terrorism
  • Additional fire protection
  • Debris removal
  • Theft
  • Landlord or tenant's neighborhood responsibilities
  • Theft of valuables
  • Loss of rent
  • Relocation expenses
  • Real estate legal protection
  • Housing assistance
  • Glass breakage
  • Personal accidents that may occur at the insured workplace
  • Electronic devices affected by electrical installation problems

There are certain situations where workplace and home fire insurance and property damages are not covered. These include: Insurrection, conflict (whether war is declared or not), civil war, occupation, rebellion, loss due to war; any damage resulting from nuclear fuel or nuclear fuel combustion; the insured's loss or participation in the loss; losses resulting from government sanctions; technical malfunction resulting from the incineration of insured property for processing; electrical damage other than fire (such as short circuit explosion or overheating of electrical equipment); pressure-related deformation in fusion devices; overheating; steam boiler explosion; contact of insured property with candles, irons, etc.

There are certain situations where workplace and home fire insurance and property damages are not covered. To benefit from the above coverages, you must notify your insurance company after the fire. Therefore, the insurance company sends an insurance adjuster to the scene to determine the amount of damage. During this process, it is crucial to avoid moving the items and minimize contact with them to ensure accurate damage assessment. The fire damage notification process works as follows: The damage must be reported within five business days at the latest; all necessary documents must be prepared and submitted to the experts; and a written estimate of the damages must be provided. If the items are under separate insurance coverage, this must also be reported.

Traffic Insurance

When you are involved in an accident, you may cause damage to the other party's vehicle, the physical property of third parties, or public property. In such an incident where more than one vehicle or property is damaged, your traffic insurance will compensate for damages up to 240,000 TL. The payment limit per accident is divided proportionally to the material damage in the accident.

Thanks to the material damage coverage per vehicle in traffic insurance, you can insure against material damage to the other party's vehicle in an accident. The coverage is limited to 120,000 TL per vehicle. If you are at fault in the accident, your traffic insurance will pay for the damage to the other party's vehicle up to 120,000 TL.

Health expense coverage per person allows you to cover all medical treatment costs for another party who suffers bodily injury as a result of an accident. If a person becomes unable to work due to a traffic accident during their treatment period, you can purchase traffic insurance covering up to 1,200,000 Turkish Lira to cover all expenses incurred during the treatment period.

Per-Accident Treatment Expenses: With traffic insurance coverage, you can cover the treatment expenses of another person resulting from a traffic accident. In the event of injury to a third party (more than one person) as a result of an accident, a healthcare expense insurance policy with a limit of 6,000,000 TL per accident is applied. This limit is covered by scaling up the recovery of the injured parties.

Car Insurance

Car insurance is optional. There is no legal obligation to purchase comprehensive car insurance. However, comprehensive insurance is advantageous because it covers certain risks not covered by mandatory traffic insurance, such as natural disasters.

Traffic Insurance:

This type of insurance covers damages that may occur to the other party in the event of an accident.
The coverage limits of traffic insurance are determined by the state; they are fixed and cannot be changed.
Traffic insurance prices are based on a free tariff system. Therefore, when you purchase traffic insurance, the coverage does not change, but the price may vary.

Comprehensive Car Insurance:

Comprehensive car insurance covers damages to your own vehicle in the event of an accident.
You can determine the coverage limits of this insurance. You can also expand the coverage of your insurance policy with additional coverages if you wish.
The price of comprehensive car insurance varies depending on the coverage of the policy.

To receive a car insurance discount, you need the vehicle registration certificate or, more commonly, the driver's license for the vehicle you wish to insure. Other than that, no additional documents are required to obtain a price quote.

If your vehicle has not been damaged within the one-year policy period, you are entitled to a no-claim discount in addition to the policy discount. You can benefit from the no-claim discount when renewing your car insurance. This discount may vary from year to year. For example, after your initial car insurance purchase, you will receive a 30% no-claim discount after 12 months. This discount rate may increase to 60% in the future. As long as the vehicle remains undamaged, the no-claim discount rate will continue to increase.

Supplementary Insurance

Supplementary health insurance covers both outpatient and inpatient treatment. Coverage ranges from routine checkups to emergency surgery costs. Beyond this, you can add different types of coverage to your Supplementary Health Insurance policy for an additional premium or free of charge (depending on the insurance company).

You may need to be hospitalized due to a sudden illness or accident. Especially if you need surgery, instead of worrying about the cost, you can benefit from the hospital care coverage of Supplementary Health Insurance. If you need to be hospitalized, your supplementary health insurance will cover your hospitalization and treatment. Surgery and pre- and post-operative examination costs are included in the hospital treatment coverage. In addition to this coverage, radiotherapy, dialysis, chemotherapy, and related costs are also covered. Remember that the scope of supplementary private health insurance varies from insurer to insurer.

With outpatient coverage, you can receive healthcare services such as examinations, tests, X-rays, and laboratory procedures without needing to be hospitalized. With your supplementary health insurance, you can go to a contracted private hospital and have your doctor's recommended check-ups and tests done free of charge. You only need to pay a participation fee of 15 TL for each examination. You can benefit from your health insurance policy without paying any fees other than the participation fee. While supplementary health insurance policies vary depending on the insurance company, they generally cover 8-10 outpatient examinations. You may need to pay an additional fee for more than 8-10 examinations per year. Of course, this limit may vary depending on the insurance company and policy coverage.

In addition to the main coverages of supplementary health insurance, you can also add additional coverages such as:

  • Check-up
  • Dietitian
  • Psychological support
  • Dental care

Travel Health Insurance

International travel insurance allows you to receive hospital treatment in case of health problems while on holiday outside of Turkey. Instead of despairing when you suddenly fall ill, you can receive healthcare with your travel health insurance. It also covers financial losses such as travel cancellation and lost luggage. International travel insurance is also a document required by most consulates when applying for a visa. Therefore, you may need to obtain international travel health insurance as part of your international travel plans. International travel insurance is also a document required by most consulates during visa applications. Therefore, obtaining international travel health insurance may be mandatory for your international travel plans.

Travel health insurance is one of the documents required for visa applications for international travel. Therefore, obtaining travel insurance is necessary for visa applications. Visa is not required for travel to countries that do not require a visa. In Turkey, Burgundy and green passports are commonly used. Green passport holders can travel to many places, such as the Schengen area, without a visa. Holders of burgundy passports can only travel visa-free to countries that have visa-free agreements with Turkey. On the other hand, travel health insurance is often the first thing people think about during the visa application process. A visa is required to travel to places like the Schengen area.

The insurance covers all expenses for hospitalization, surgery, treatment, and prescribed medications in case of sudden illness, disease, or injury occurring during travel, up to a maximum limit of 30,000 Euros.

If you are purchasing insurance for visa processing, you need to be very careful. For example, if the required visa duration is 10 days, it is recommended to purchase insurance for that period. Furthermore, if you are traveling to multiple countries consecutively, you should choose insurance that covers all of them and adjust the duration accordingly. You can read our content for detailed information about Schengen visas.

Private Health Insurance

Private health insurance covers the most general forms of inpatient and outpatient treatments. You can use your individual health insurance to cover treatments that require hospitalization, such as surgery, and non-hospitalization services such as physical therapy, tests, and X-rays. Coverage limits are very important in a private health insurance policy because you can only receive the treatment covered by the policy. Private health insurance coverage is determined by salary caps. For example, some policies cover 100% of the treatment cost for an illness, while others pay 80%, meaning you pay the remaining 20%. Since limits vary depending on the insurance company, it's beneficial to have more information about the coverage when getting a quote.

Private health insurance covers treatments that require hospitalization and arise after an accident. If you have an accident or need surgery due to an emergency, you don't have to worry about medical bills. You can cover your and your companion's surgery, post-operative room, and meal expenses with your Private Health Insurance policy. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, intensive care, medication costs, and other illnesses are also covered under this policy.

Health expenses that do not require hospitalization, such as doctor's examinations and routine check-ups, are covered under outpatient treatment. You can have all analyses done under the guarantee and benefit from laboratory services. You can also pay for physiotherapy and rehabilitation fees with private health insurance. Note that limits vary depending on the insurance company.

The terms and conditions of private health insurance are divided into two categories: general conditions determined by the Turkish Insurance Institution (TSB) and special conditions that vary from insurance company to insurance company. Each insurance company has its own specific criteria. In special cases, the subject of insurance, its definition, coverage, treatment, and other details determined by the company are excluded from coverage. For example, the age range for obtaining private health insurance is generally between 18 and 65 years old. Some insured individuals may be able to make a different application to extend their ÖSS (Student Loan and Scholarship Institution) to those over 65 years of age, depending on their specific circumstances.

Freight Insurance

There is no legal obligation to purchase freight insurance. However, the fact that freight insurance requires bank guarantees, the high risks in ship insurance, and the willingness of mortgage creditors to obtain insurance have made freight insurance a financial necessity.

Freight insurance is international insurance. When insuring imported or exported goods, since one of the parties to the sales contract is a foreign country, the buyer and seller must agree on standard and internationally accepted insurance coverage.

We can divide the factors affecting the price of commodity freight insurance into four categories:

Type of goods, packaging, mode of transport
Voyage
Means of transport
Scope of coverage

Mobile Phone Insurance

  • Broken and damaged phones
  • Damage caused by high pressure, liquid contact, and incorrect accessory use
  • Theft
  • Phone becoming damaged and unusable

Mobile phone insurance coverage generally includes the above coverages. These coverages may vary depending on the insurance company. You can also see the coverage details when getting a quote and choose the most suitable mobile phone insurance for you.

By purchasing mobile phone insurance, you can protect your device against theft. In case your phone is stolen, your insurance company will provide you with a replacement device or, with some exceptions, will pay you in cash. This varies depending on the insurance company. Phone theft generally means being forcibly stolen from your residence, workplace, or a locked vehicle. If your phone is stolen in public places (parks, buses, minibuses, cafes, shopping malls, concert halls, offices, etc.), it is not covered.

If you forget your phone somewhere or lose your device, cell phone insurance will not cover it.

If your phone breaks or is damaged, it will still be covered, and the insurance company will pay for the repair costs. However, repair terms may vary depending on the insurance company.

DASK (Compulsory Earthquake Insurance)

Earthquake insurance prices vary depending on the characteristics of the house and are not related to the insurance company. In other words, the insurance premium you will pay when you get a DASK (Earthquake Insurance) quote for your own home will not differ from company to company. Therefore, the clearest answer to the question "How much does DASK cost?" will be determined when you receive a quote from a homeowner. Factors such as the building's construction type, number of floors, building permit year, location (city/region), etc., determine the DASK price.

The DASK insurance cost is calculated based on the square meterage of the residence. According to the Official Gazette, the price per square meter for reinforced concrete structures is 3,016 TL, and for other architectural styles, it is 2,080 TL. DASK calculations are made based on these square meterage figures.

Earthquakes can cause material damage to your building. In this case, if you have DASK coverage, damages exceeding 2% will be covered by your earthquake insurance. For example, in a house with a fixed price of 100,000 TL, you would pay up to 2,000 TL for damage, and DASK (Compulsory Earthquake Insurance) would cover the damage. Compulsory earthquake insurance only covers damage to houses caused by earthquakes. This means your household goods are not included. You can also purchase home insurance to protect your belongings.

With DASK, different parts of the building are insured separately. You can see these parts below:

  • Foundations
  • Main walls
  • Common walls separating sections
  • Garden walls
  • Retaining walls
  • Ceilings and floors
  • Stairs
  • Elevators
  • Landings
  • Corridors
  • Roofs
  • Chimneys
  • Supplementary parts of the building similar to the above

Compulsory earthquake insurance cannot be purchased by a tenant in their own name. The tenant can act as an "insurer" to insure the landlord for compulsory earthquake insurance. In any case, the compensation is paid to the person specified as the "right holder" in the title deed.

Home Insurance

If you take out home insurance, you secure your budget against situations such as fire, earthquake, and flood that may occur in your home. Damaged items are also covered by this guarantee.

Additional coverages in a policy are important in determining what home insurance covers. For example, guarantees range from theft to the protection of guests' belongings. Other coverages you can add to your home insurance policy are as follows:

  • Strikes, lockouts, riots, terrorism
  • Additional fire protection
  • Debris removal
  • Theft
  • Landlord or Tenant's Neighborhood
  • Liabilities
  • Theft of valuables
  • Loss of rent
  • Relocation expenses
  • Real estate legal protection
  • Home assistance
  • Glass breakage
  • Personal accidents that may occur at the insured workplace
  • Electronic devices affected by electrical installation problems

Home insurance; You are not obligated to do this. However, even without legal requirements, it is a frequently preferred type of insurance because it offers a wide range of coverage.

Whether you are a homeowner or a tenant, you can purchase homeowner insurance. However, building guarantees are only available if you own the house. If you are a homeowner, you can purchase homeowner insurance that includes property and building coverage. Even if you are a tenant, you can only protect your belongings with contents insurance.
